The 2025 International Award “Lombardy is Research” has been jointly awarded to British professors Mark Caulfield and Douglas F. Easton, pioneers in the field of genomic medicine.
The recognition was granted to the two scientists for their groundbreaking research, which led to the identification of genes associated with increased susceptibility to various diseases, particularly cancers and cardiovascular disorders, having a significant impact on early diagnosis, prevention, and precision medicine.

For the 2025 edition, the Prize will be awarded to innovations and scientific, pharmacological, and technological contributions in the following areas of interest:
Timely detection of diseases: contributions or discoveries that enable the identification of predictive indicators and mechanisms of diseases
Innovations in radiology, histopathology, and laboratory diagnostics such as advanced imaging techniques or artificial intelligence algorithms for more accurate diagnoses and less invasive treatments
Genomic and proteomic advancements in diagnostics: identifying molecular anomalies, discovering novel disease biomarkers, and developing personalized therapeutic strategies
Artificial intelligence and data analysis: integration of clinical, genetic, and proteomic data for predicting disease onset or progression
Personalized screening and preventive interventions: Development of protocols, strategies, and technologies to detect early susceptibility signals, enabling timely intervention
Vaccination and immunization: Advancements in vaccine development, targeted immunization initiatives, and new technological platforms for personalized vaccines
Genetic and molecular approaches to prevention: Advanced sequencing technologies, studies, or analyses to identify and personalize preventive measures while monitoring their effectiveness
Health promotion and disease prevention: Awareness programs, health education initiatives, and strategies to encourage healthy lifestyles
