Antonio Colombo is a Full Professor of Cardiology and Senior Consultant at the Humanitas University in Milan. Born on June 17, 1950, in Busto Arsizio, he graduated in Medicine from the University of Milan. He specialized in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Parma and completed his cardiology specialization at the De Gasperis Cardio Center in Milan.
Colombo is also the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at EMO GVM - Columbus Heart Center in Milan and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University in New York. As a participating cardiologist at Stamford Hospital, Professor Colombo works closely with interventional cardiologists to provide innovative procedures for structural heart conditions, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and MitraClip. In 1994, he was one of the first to use IVUS (intravascular ultrasound) for stent placement and to understand the importance of proper stent expansion to prevent thrombosis.
Professor Colombo serves on the editorial boards of several important cardiology and interventional cardiology journals and has written over 500 articles published in scientific journals. He has also contributed chapters to significant reference books on interventional cardiology and has authored several books on coronary intervention. He is an active member of various medical societies, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Medical Association.
Currently, he works as a principal investigator at both national and international levels, conducting multicenter clinical trials and spontaneous clinical studies in interventional cardiology.
